Recycled CarsThere are several different reasons why companies need to go green in this modern age.

The business environment for these companies is better because they face fewer regulations and are incentivized through tax cuts. Being conservative also results in reduced wastage and the development of efficient processes within the organization. The business is able to realize more profits because wastage of energy and resources is reduced. The auto industry is an industry that is making huge strides on this front. Auto recycling is the dismantling of vehicles to extract the various spare parts. It is commonly done on vehicles that can no longer be used because of damage or prolonged use.

Growth in the Industry

The auto industry has grown in importance because it has created a market for original spare parts that are in a relatively good condition. It plays a role in environmental conservation because many parts do not need to be manufactured to meet the needs of the market. It saves manufacturing companies millions of dollars in the oil that is used in the production of new parts each year. It also decreases the number of parts that are disposed in landfills and takes them to where they are useful. More than ten million cars reach the end of their life cycles in the United States alone each year. The advantage of auto recycling is that it takes parts that are still in good condition from the decommissioned cars.

Some of the parts including the battery, the wheels, and the wheels are removed when these vehicles reach the plant. The electrical components are usually in good condition and can be sold to consumers or remanufacturers. These parts include the alternator, the starter motor, and the audio system. The vehicles are shredded. The metal is then separated so that it can be recycled. The remaining material is then sorted accordingly. The residue is what is dumped. The residue contains both recyclable and non-recyclable materials. Tests are being performed on how to separate the two.

Increased Efficiency

The efficiency of the process continues to rise. It is possible to recycle as much as 75% of the material from one car. Vehicles are the most recycled consumer product today because they supply close to 15 million tons of steel to the steel industry. The steel industry saves on power that it could have used in the production of the material. This energy is enough to supply 20 million homes with power for a year. Recycling uses only a quarter of the energy used during manufacturing when recycling and manufacturing are compared. The government has promoted the adoption of green practices. It has set up fewer regulations for companies in this space.

Many car manufacturers have joined the trade after realizing that many recyclable parts were being wasted. A quarter of the material used to make the bodies of cars is recycled steel. Ford Motor Company announced that it would share more of the sustainable methods that it uses with its suppliers. This is because the company wants more enterprises to adopt practices that are friendly to the environment. The automotive manufacturer has already put different systems into place that allow it to conserve resources. The success of this program led them to realize that it could also work for their suppliers. Ford will provide tools that will reduce the amount of water and energy that they use. These tools will also aid in reducing the waste and carbon dioxide emissions that they release into the atmosphere. The pact is known as the Partnership for A Cleaner Environment. It is one of the largest green movements to be undertaken by a car manufacturer.

The second batch of companies joined the program last year to bring the total number of suppliers to forty. This is a large number considering that PACE was started two years ago. The program could be implemented in more than a thousand sites all over the world at the current rate. Ford was named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute this year because of their commitment. This made it the eighth consecutive year of recognition by the Institute.
